Everyone should take a ride on the SkyWheel at least once for a spectacular view of the area. It is located on the boardwalk running down North Ocean Blvd. Another place to visit is the WonderWorks, where everything, including the building, is upside down. Then go to the nearby Ripley's Aquarium to enjoy viewing ocean life. Both are located on Celebrity Circle near Broadway at the Beach.

12. What Myrtle Beach is Famous For
President George Washington stayed at a tavern operated by William Gause when he visited the area in 1791. The city officially became a beach town in 1900. It was named Myrtle Beach after a local plant that grows wild in the area. It became a popular destination location after the railroad extended the tracks to Myrtle Beach from Conway, South Carolina.
The country-rock band named Alabama, which had seven platinum records, got its start by performing at a club in Myrtle Beach. The beach is family-friendly and wearing a thong bathing suit by anyone is illegal, so everyone is encouraged to keep their beach activities G-rated.
